Charnwood Community Action reaches a milestone of 20,000 food parcels distributed to those in need throughout the pandemic.

Charnwood Community Action officially distributed 10,000 food parcels to local people throughout lockdown. The occasion was marked by a visit from the Mayor, and the project continues.

Since March, the CFPG, led by The Bridge, has worked closely with Charnwood Borough Council and John Storer House to provide a safe and centralised food provision project during the Coronavirus pandemic. On a weekly basis, up to 650 food parcels are being sent out to local people.

The CFPG are awarded a #TogetherWeCare certificate from Leicestershire Cares, following "tremendous efforts" during the pandemic. The CFPG worked innovatively with Charnwood Borough Council and John Storer House to ensure food provision met demand while also protecting the safety of clients and staff/volunteers.

An impressive donation was made by Loughborough Martial Arts Education Centre, who posted a call-out on social media. Community members and businesses pulled together to donate long-life goods over the Harvest Festival period.

Funding granted to extend the project and the role of Food Poverty Development Officer.
- September 2019
Satellite Centres in Shepshed and Mountsorrel were successfully established to aid food provision in the two localities. Our first Community Fridge is set up in Sorrel Youth Cafe.

The Food Poverty Development Officer role is filled, based at The Bridge (East Midlands) to aid the co-ordination, development and operational duties of the CFPG.
